What are heavy eyebrows?

Heavy eyebrows occur when the skin above the eyebrows loses its elasticity, resulting in the eyebrows being pulled down towards the eyelid. This can make it harder to open your eyes, often leading to frowning to open your eyes. As well as causing strain and discomfort, it can also lead to headaches. The excess skin can also hang down over the upper eyelashes and partially block vision, causing you to bend your head backwards to see clearly.

Heavy Eyebrows Surgery

The heavy eyebrow surgery, also known as an eyebrow lift, aims to remove the excess skin and tighten the area, alleviating the discomfort caused by heavy eyebrows. It is important to note that the surgery is not performed for cosmetic reasons alone, but instead to alleviate the functional discomfort that can occur as a result of heavy eyebrows.

How is heavy eyebrow surgery performed?

  • Anesthesia: The surgery is performed under local anesthesia, so you will be awake but not in pain.
  • Procedure: Once you are positioned on the operating table, the surgical area is cleaned and marked with marker. Anesthesia is administered into the skin with a thin needle. The anesthetic may cause a brief stinging sensation and slight tension in the skin, but afterwards you will not feel any pain in the area, only touch.
  • Procedure: During surgery, the excess skin is removed and the wound is sewn together with self-dissolving threads in depth and a fine thread in the skin. The surgery is usually performed on both eyebrows simultaneously to ensure a symmetrical result.
  • Scar: There will always be a scar after surgery, but it will be hidden in the eyebrows and forehead creases. The visibility of the scar may vary.

After heavy eyebrows surgery

  • Recovery: After the surgery you will be able to go home, possibly after a short stay in the recovery room.
  • Pain: You are likely to experience mild pain in the first few days, which can be relieved with Paracetamol.
  • Swelling and discoloration: It is normal for the skin to be swollen and discolored after surgery.
  • Activities: It is recommended to stay calm on the day of your surgery. During the first week, you should keep your head elevated at night to reduce swelling. Avoid going to the swimming pool or swimming in the sea until the threads are removed.
  • Smoking: Smoking slows wound healing and increases the risk of infection, so it’s best to avoid smoking.

Follow-Up and Check-Up:

  • Thread removal: The threads are usually removed 10-14 days after surgery. The date and time for this is agreed at the time of surgery.
  • Follow-up: If further checks are needed, they will be arranged during surgery.
  • Contact for complications: If you experience symptoms such as increasing pain, bleeding, pus, increasing redness or other unexpected discomfort within the first 3 months, you should contact us.

As with all surgeries, there are small risks:

  • Asymmetry: Asymmetry can occur between the two eyebrows, which may require a new surgery to correct it.
  • Excess skin: In some cases, excess skin may remain on the upper eyelids after surgery, which may require additional surgery.
  • Sensory disturbances: You may experience sensory disturbances in the operated area, which will usually subside over time.

Questions about heavy eyebrows

Surgical eyebrow lift costs DKK 6,250 per eye.

Heavy eyelids can be treated both surgically and non-surgically. A common surgical solution is eyelid surgery, where excess skin is removed, giving a more open and fresh appearance. Both treatments depend on the degree of heavy eyelids and the patient’s needs.

Depending on the method, a brow lift can last anywhere from 6 months to several years. Non-surgical treatments like Botox typically last 3-6 months, while surgical brow lifts, like an eyebrow lift, can last 5-10 years, or even longer, depending on skin elasticity and lifestyle factors.
