Diamond Burr Corneal Polishing
Smoothing of the corneal surface, which can improve vision and increase eye comfort.
14,000 DKK per eye
Diamond burr polishing is an effective treatment for corneal diseases that cause irregularities or unevenness in the cornea.
What is Diamond Burr Polishing?
Diamond Burr Polishing is an eye treatment used for blurred vision or eye pain caused by irregularities in the outer cell layer of the cornea. The aim of the treatment is to restore a smooth and regular corneal surface to improve vision and reduce discomfort.
The treatment is gentle and performed under local anesthesia in an operating room with an operating microscope.
How does Diamond Burr Polishing work?
The treatment takes less than 15 minutes and proceeds as follows:
- Preparation and anesthesia: You will be given numbing eye drops and offered a sedative tablet. A small brace is placed between your eyelids so you don’t have to hold your eye open yourself.
- The treatment itself: The outer cell layer of the eye is gently removed and the corneal surface is polished with a special diamond drill to create a smooth surface.
- Closure: To prevent pain and support healing, you get:
- Pupil dilating eye drops
- A bandage lens (a thin, temporary contact lens)
- A double eye bandage
After Diamond Burr Polishing
The first days:
- For the first 1-2 days, avoid activities such as reading, screen use and physical exertion.
- Painkillers should be taken every 4 hours as there is often soreness or pain in the eye during this period.
Eye drops and medication:
- The eye should be dripped 4 times daily from the morning after treatment.
- Once the bandage lens is removed, continue dripping twice daily until the bottle is empty.
- In addition, the use of artificial tears during the day and possibly eye ointment at night is recommended for 3-6 months.
Vision and Healing Process:
After treatment, vision will be blurred for up to a week. Vision will gradually improve as the outer cell layer regenerates and pupil dilation decreases. The final result is typically visible within a few weeks.
Follow-Up and Check-Up:
You will have your first check-up after approximately 1 week, when the bandage lens will be removed. Any further check-ups will be arranged individually based on the healing process and results.
Possible Complications:
The treatment is generally safe with a low risk of complications. In rare cases, the desired effect may not be achieved, but the procedure can be repeated after a few months if necessary.
