Meet the Ophthalmologist who Brought the Transplantation Method to Denmark

We sat down with the ophthalmologist Javier Cabrerizo for a conversation about technology, passion, and why he believes it is absolutely essential to stay ahead. Both as a doctor and as a clinic.

Javier has been a Chief eye doctor and surgeon at the Department of Ophthalmology at Rigshospitalet in Glostrup for a number of years. He is also specially trained in advanced corneal transplants in the Netherlands, and he helped bring the transplant method to Denmark.

Today he is the owner of Copenhagen Eye Institutewhere he and his team meet patients every day with one common mission. To get the best possible vision and the best possible quality of life afterwards.

An insight into the everyday life of ophthalmologist Javier Cabrerizo

Interviewer: Javier, I know that you emphasize an innovative approach to your profession. Why is that so important?

Javier: I have a strong focus on making sure the clinic is 100% up to date in eye care so that we can offer the most optimal and at the same time the most gentle treatment for the patient.

Interviewer: Why is it so important, if you have to go into detail?

Javier: Partly because medical technology is constantly evolving – becoming more advanced, but also more gentle. For example, corneal transplants a few years ago involved stitches in the eye to secure the new cornea. Today, with the new technology I am specially trained in, in the Netherlands, the cornea can be ‘glued’ in place using a special gas, avoiding stitches. So the operation is much less bothersome for the patient.
In addition, we offer a range of high-quality lenses so that we can target the optimal vision very precisely if the patient needs cataract surgery, for example.

Interviewer: But staying ahead of the curve, isn’t that difficult in a busy practice?

Javier: Yes, that’s right. It has to be planned well. But no matter how busy I am, I simply prioritize educating myself on the latest technologies and thus more gentle treatment options. It is my passion to offer the best professional and most relevant solution for the patient.

Interviewer: In addition to training, you also need some equipment that is quite advanced?

Javier: That’s correct! I focus on the very best technology from the most reputable companies, including those from Switzerland. In this way, I can maintain the standard, as I focus both on the ongoing training of staff and the development of the clinic’s technical quality, which together form a higher unity, benefiting the patient.

Interviewer: I know you’re busy, as I can see that new patients are constantly arriving here at the clinic. So I want to thank you for taking the time to give us a little insight into your everyday life.

Javier: It was a pleasure and thanks for your interest!
