Why us
AQUA PRK with AQUARIUZ
A flapless laser treatment that preserves a strong cornea
At our clinic in Kejsergade in Copenhagen K, we treat with Ziemer AQUARIUZ, a water-assisted surface laser where no flap is cut in the cornea. This makes the treatment particularly suitable if you practice contact sports or have an active everyday life.
III

V
Healing, result, and risks
Healing
The corneal surface heals in 4–7 days. During this period, your vision is blurred, and you should take time off and avoid driving. Vision stabilizes over weeks to months.
Result
The correction is permanent. Age-related farsightedness still develops with age and may cause a need for reading glasses later in life.
Possible side effects
Discomfort and light sensitivity the first few days, temporary dry eyes, and halos in the dark. Rarer over- or under-correction, which is covered by the guarantee, slight corneal haze, or infection.
VI
LASIK or Aqua PRK: What is the difference?
Both are modern and well-documented. The difference lies in the access to the cornea and the healing process.

Questions and Answers
How long does laser eye surgery last?
The results are long-lasting, and for most people, they last a lifetime. Age-related vision changes can still occur later in life, as they do for everyone.
How much does laser eye surgery cost in Copenhagen?
Laser eye surgery at the Copenhagen Eye Institute costs 15,000 DKK per eye. The price covers the entire process: the free preliminary examination, the surgery itself, all follow-up visits, and our lifetime treatment guarantee, including any necessary fine-tuning. If you have health insurance, it often covers all or part of the cost. You can also spread out the payment using a credit plan.
When can I return to work?
Most people return to work after 4–7 days. The surface of the cornea heals within the first few days, and during that time your vision will be blurry, so you should take time off and avoid driving. If your job involves working at a computer, it may be helpful to work slightly shorter days during the first week. Your vision will continue to improve over the following weeks.
Does it hurt?
The procedure itself does not hurt. The eye is numbed with eye drops, and the laser treatment takes only a few minutes per eye. For the first 2–3 days afterward, your eye may feel irritated, sensitive to light, and watery, as if you had something in it. You will be given pain-relieving eye drops and a protective lens to shield your eye while it heals.
How do I prepare?
You’ll need to stop wearing contact lenses for a period of time before the preoperative examination and before the surgery, because the lenses affect the shape of the cornea. We’ll let you know exactly how long. On the day of the surgery, please arrive without makeup, lotion, or perfume. You won’t be allowed to drive afterward, so arrange for someone to pick you up, and plan to spend a few quiet days at home.
Can I do sports afterwards?
Yes. Because AQUA PRK does not involve cutting a flap in the cornea, the eye is just as strong as before once it has healed. This makes the treatment a good option if you participate in contact sports. Light exercise can typically be resumed after a few days. You should wait a few weeks before swimming or participating in contact sports to allow the cornea to heal completely.
Is the initial consultation free?
Yes, the initial consultation is free and non-binding. We’ll thoroughly examine your eyes, assess whether laser eye surgery is the right solution for you, and provide you with a personalized treatment plan. The exam takes 40 minutes. If you’re unable to attend, please cancel your appointment, as we charge a no-show fee of 300 kr. for missed appointments.
