Nevertheless, monitoring eye health\u2014especially in diabetic patients\u2014is good clinical practice. <\/p><p data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1908\">In some cases, semaglutide treatments have been linked to problems in the optic nerve. Blood Sugar Control and Metabolic Stability<br><\/p><p>For patients with diabetes, good blood sugar control is crucial before and after surgery. Large fluctuations in blood glucose levels can temporarily affect vision and, in some cases, influence healing after surgery. Therefore, we assess metabolic stability as part of the preoperative evaluation.<br>  <\/p><p>2. Retinal Health (Back of the Eye)<\/p><p>Some studies have suggested that patients with pre-existing diabetic retinopathy may experience changes in their retinal condition when starting semaglutide. This does not mean that Wegovy or Ozempic is unsafe\u2014but it does mean that a thorough retinal examination is recommended before proceeding with lens replacement surgery.<br> <\/p><p>3. Stability of Your Vision<br><\/p><p>Rapid weight loss can, in some individuals, cause small changes in refractive error (glasses prescription). For this reason, we may recommend ensuring that your vision has been relatively stable for a period before performing precise measurements for premium intraocular lenses.<br> <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<section class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8bd3168 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-child\" data-id=\"8bd3168\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-13ed5e1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"13ed5e1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Can You Get Multifocal Lenses While Taking Wegovy?<br><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38fb115 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38fb115\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"3296\" data-end=\"3579\">Yes\u2014multifocal lenses are still a possible option for most patients on Wegovy or Ozempic. However, the decision requires a careful and detailed eye examination. The single most important point here is if diabetes mellitus has harmed the posterior part of the eye, a condition called diabetic retinopathy.<br>  <\/p><p data-start=\"3581\" data-end=\"3957\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cpheyeinstitute.dk\/en\/lens-types\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Multifocal, trifocal, and EDOF<\/span><\/a> (Extended Depth of Focus) lenses demand high optical quality of the eye. However, some patients with mild or moderate diabetic retinopathy can be candidates to other types of surgical solutions that can aim for the highest possible level of spectacle independence. Typically through a monovision solution, where one eye is used for reading and the other eye is used for far distance <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ddeee76 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ddeee76\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When a diabetic patients or non diabetic patient taking Wegovy approaches us with the interest in being free of spectacles we book a preoperative consultation where we address:<br><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d57b5c9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d57b5c9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li data-start=\"4152\" data-end=\"4202\">Any presence of diabetic retinopathy<\/li><li data-start=\"4205\" data-end=\"4250\">The quality of your tear film and ocular surface<\/li><li data-start=\"4253\" data-end=\"4273\">Signs of dry eye disease<\/li><li data-start=\"4276\" data-end=\"4297\">The condition of your retina<\/li><li data-start=\"4300\" data-end=\"4332\">The stability of your vision over time<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-784234f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"784234f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"4334\" data-end=\"4500\">If these factors are satisfactory, there is generally no reason to exclude multifocal lenses solely because you are taking Wegovy or Ozempic. <br><\/p><p data-start=\"4502\" data-end=\"4771\">However, since many of the patients that take this drug have diabetes in different stages, it is important to know that diabetic retinopathy (harm of the retina due to diabetes) is an absolute contraindication for Multifocal trifocals and in most cases EDOF lenses in our practise.<br><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<section class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d5146d6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-child\" data-id=\"d5146d6\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d48089b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d48089b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Cataract Surgery, Lens Replacement, and GLP-1 Medication<br><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a66c1b8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a66c1b8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"4826\" data-end=\"4986\">Many patients taking Wegovy or Ozempic are also in the age group where cataracts (clouding of the natural lens) become more common.<br><\/p><p data-start=\"4988\" data-end=\"5013\">The key message is:<\/p><p data-start=\"5015\" data-end=\"5125\">If you have visually significant cataracts, you should not avoid surgery simply because you are taking semaglutide.<br><\/p><p data-start=\"5127\" data-end=\"5322\">Modern cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses can significantly improve both vision and quality of life.
