class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Anti-VEGF treatment is used for diseases of the retina of the eye where leaky blood vessels cause fluid and bleeding in the eye. This is seen, among other things, in: <\/p><ul data-start=\"579\" data-end=\"711\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"579\" data-end=\"625\">Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"626\" data-end=\"649\">Diabetes in the eye<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"671\">Blood clot in the eye<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"711\">Varicose vein inflammation (inflammation)<\/li><\/ul><p>These conditions are often caused by a signaling substance called VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), which causes blood vessels to leak fluid and blood.<\/p><p>The treatment consists of injections into the vitreous of the eye with medication that inhibits VEGF. Once the eye is numbed, a thin needle containing the medication is inserted into the vitreous (the jelly-like part in the center of the eye). The injection itself takes a few seconds and is usually almost painless. It is normal to experience: <\/p><ul data-start=\"243\" data-end=\"415\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"243\" data-end=\"286\">Slight discomfort or &#8220;gritty feeling&#8221; in the eye<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"287\" data-end=\"333\">Redness on the white of the eye at the injection site<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"334\" data-end=\"415\">A small black dot or spot in the visual field (from air bubble) for up to a few days<\/li><\/ul><p>Vision may be slightly blurred for the rest of the day and it is recommended to take it easy. Most people can resume normal activities the following day. <\/p><p>Consult an ophthalmologist or seek emergency help if it occurs:<\/p><ul data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"811\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"677\">Severe pain in the eye<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"701\">Sudden decrease in vision<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"748\">The eye becomes very red or pus appears<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"811\">Fever or general malaise associated with eye
