class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Ultraviolet cross-linking (UV cross-linking) is a treatment that strengthens the cornea by forming chemical bonds between its fibers. The treatment is used for the eye disease keratoconus, where the cornea gradually becomes thinner and more cone-shaped. UV cross-linking can stabilize the disease in 90% of cases and prevent further deterioration without necessarily improving vision.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<section class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27cbe8a e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-child\" data-id=\"27cbe8a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ee9377 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-mobile__width-inherit elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4ee9377\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The purpose of Keratoconus treatment<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-593c9915 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-mobile__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"593c9915\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In keratoconus, the shape of the cornea can change, distorting vision. UV cross-linking slows this development so that vision is not further impaired. It is a preventive treatment and the effect usually lasts for many years. In rare cases (around 2%), complications such as corneal clouding may occur.   <\/p><p>Before treatment<\/p><ul data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"1096\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"1026\">Do not take a break from blood thinners.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1027\" data-end=\"1096\">If you are nervous, you can get a calming tablet on arrival.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<section class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0757be2 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The treatment takes approximately 2 hours and takes place under local anesthesia in the operating room:<\/p><ol data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1603\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1277\">Removal of surface cells on the cornea.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1278\" data-end=\"1343\">The eye is dripped for 20-30 minutes.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1344\" data-end=\"1460\">The cornea is illuminated with ultraviolet light for 10 minutes, which activates the cross-linking and strengthens the cornea.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1554\">You&#8217;ll receive a drop that dilates the pupil and relieves pain for up to 4-5 days.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1603\">An eye patch is applied after the treatment.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<section class=\"elementor-element data-start=\"1648\" data-end=\"1718\">Keep on for the rest of the day to protect against further UV light.<\/li><\/ul><p>Eye drops:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1849\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1809\">4 times daily until your checkup (within 14 days).<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1810\" data-end=\"1849\">The prescription is issued on the day of surgery.<\/li><\/ul><p>Pain and relief:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"2083\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1927\">Light to moderate pain is normal for the first few days.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1928\" data-end=\"1978\">Paracetamol 500 mg can be used as needed.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1979\" data-end=\"2083\">Eye drops can be used for pain relief (at most every 15 minutes and only for the first 3 days).<\/li><\/ul><p>What can you do after treatment?<\/p><ul><li>You can take a shower.<\/li><li>You may resume physical work after a few days.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Avoid dirt in the eye for the first week.<\/li><li>No sea bath, swimming pool or swimming pool.<\/li><li>No makeup before check-ups.<\/li><li>Contact lens use should only be resumed after approximately 1 month.<\/li><\/ul><p>Vision After the Treatment:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2443\" data-end=\"2559\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2443\" data-end=\"2487\">Vision is often blurred in the first few days.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2488\" data-end=\"2559\">The blur gradually improves, but slight blurring may continue for 3-6 months.<\/li><\/ul><p>Sick Leave:<br\/><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">You can usually return to work after 3\u20134 days, depending on the nature of your job.<\/span><\/p><p>Possible Complications:<br\/><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">UV cross-linking is a safe treatment, but the following may occur:<\/span><\/p><ul data-start=\"2942\" data-end=\"3006\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2942\" data-end=\"2967\">Corneal inflammation<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2968\" data-end=\"3006\">Slow healing of the surface wound<\/li><\/ul><p>Contact the eye department if:<\/p><ul data-start=\"3041\" data-end=\"3161\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"3041\" data-end=\"3078\">Persistent or increasing pain<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"3079\" data-end=\"3098\">Increased redness in the eye<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"3099\" data-end=\"3112\">Pus formation<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"3113\" data-end=\"3134\">Deterioration of vision<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"3135\" data-end=\"3161\">Other unexpected symptoms<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-243ab0e
