class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"\" data-start=\"104\" data-end=\"349\">Pterygium is a benign growth in the conjunctiva of the eye, often seen as a reddish, triangular-shaped patch in the white of the eye (sclera). It is a form of fatty tissue that typically grows from the inner corner of the eye and can extend over the cornea. <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"351\" data-end=\"674\">Although not dangerous, pterygium can be cosmetically bothersome and cause discomfort such as dryness, burning and itching. In more advanced cases, it can affect vision, especially if the tissue moves over the pupil and causes astigmatism. Symptoms such as burning, itching and redness can be relieved with lubricating eye drops or over-the-counter eye ointment. <\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"955\" data-end=\"1073\">For inflammatory conditions, your ophthalmologist may prescribe prescription eye drops to reduce irritation and inflammation.<\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1194\">If the pterygium grows over the cornea and risks impairing vision, the ophthalmologist will assess the need for surgery.<\/li><\/ul><p>Surgical removal is effective, but it is not uncommon for pterygium to return after surgery.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<section class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3866749 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-child\" data-id=\"3866749\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c2bb375 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-mobile__width-inherit elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1c2bb375\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How does pterygium surgery work?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7ee15457 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-mobile__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7ee15457\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1358\" data-end=\"1810\">Before any surgery, the ophthalmologist will perform a thorough examination with a slit-lamp microscope to assess the extent and location of the growth. If deemed necessary, an outpatient surgery is planned to remove the pterygium from the surface of the eye. In many cases, a technique is used where a small piece of healthy conjunctiva is transplanted to the area where the pterygium was removed, reducing the risk of it returning.  <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1812\" data-end=\"1916\">The surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia and lasts about 30 minutes. You should use antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops as prescribed by your ophthalmologist. <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2127\" data-end=\"2387\">It is important not to rub your eye after surgery and you should avoid dusty environments and strong sunlight for a while. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days, but physically strenuous activities should wait a little longer. <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2389\" data-end=\"2496\">Follow-up checks are necessary to ensure proper healing and to reduce the risk of relapse.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f54713a
